The school day for pupils in the Secondary Department begins at 7.50am with registration and ends at 3.00pm. Parents may collect their child at 3.00pm. However, if your child is remaining after school for a club, then parents can pick them up at 4.00pm. If for some reason, your child is to be collected by someone else, then please inform the class teacher in writing on the day or telephone the office so that a message can be passed on.

Pupils have a ‘Play Break’ and a ‘Lunch Break’ during the course of the day. Pupils are to provide their own meals and drinks as the school does not have a canteen. Those pupils involved in sports practices or House Competitions during their breaks, should bring the PE gear to wear at this time.

The week is broken up into 40 periods of 1 hour timetable. In Years 7 to 9, the subjects covered are English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography, Physical Education, Swimming, Information & Communications Technology (ICT), Music and Art. Pupils are given a choice between learning Bahasa Malaysia and French.

The subjects offered at GCSE level in Years 10 and 11 are English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Double Award Science, ICT, Geography, History, Art and Design, BM or French, Business Studies, Physical Education and Swimming. Our students normally opt for seven or eight GCSE subjects from this list.

Assessments

The purpose of assessments is to help inform teachers of a pupil’s progress and to help guide future planning requirements of the pupil’s individual programme of study. Assessment is on going throughout the year for each pupil in the Secondary Department in the form of regular unit tests. In addition to unit tests, there are end of year tests in the third term for all students except the Year 11, 12 and 13 students who take their external examinations at this time.

Our students are also assessed through various external examinations.

Field Trips

Local field trips, educational visits and expeditions are organised from time to time by the class teacher where it is felt such a visit may supplement either the syllabus or the general aims of the school.  These are normally organised on a class basis and whilst the participation of all pupils in a class may be felt desirable it is not obligatory, and parental consent must be given before a pupil can take part.

Field trips may also include (optional) adventure training such as an expedition to climb Mt Kinabalu, or to take part in a jungle survival course organised by arrangement with the Outward Bound School, Kinarut.

After-school Clubs

Clubs are organised by parents and teachers after school from Tuesday to Friday. These are available to pupils from Year 2 and above. Registration for these clubs takes place at the beginning of each term. Pupils are encouraged to join these clubs, but it is not compulsory. Pupils may attend clubs on each day of the week if they wish.

Please note:

A fuller description of your child’s learning programme is published in either the Key Stage 3 Curriculum Document or in the Key Stage 4 Schemes of Work Document. Both are available in the school office.
